POEM EMULATION

breaking away from demolished land
finally,
an evening so fine, indeed, that
the resonance produced by the bomber aircrafts
are long surpassed by the local’s cheering
of “victory, victory”
while awaiting for the following railroad
the bluejays circle above and sing,
even they salute.
along accommodations and chapels
vast crevices and ruins
are reconstructed by blossoming foreign citizens.
on the edge of the mainland
allied troops board off ships for the last time,
reconciling with loved ones
&
within the railroad that rides swiftly,
I, for once in quite some time
hear the radiant and joyous chatter
of generals and their sergeants;
it’s such a perfect evening
in quite some time

What does it mean to be American? What is the American Dream?
In my opinion, your religion, race, gender, or family history does not matter in order to be identified as an American. Not even the fact if you were born in the United States or born and raised in a different country matters. I think that being an American means that you live in the United States and simply take every opportunity you earn to have a great future. I believe that the “American Dream” is the belief that you must work hard here in the United States to get to where you want to be in order to live a better life than before, which is why people know the United States as the “land of opportunity.” For instance many people come to America believing that now that they are here, they must excessively work in order to make a living. Not only that but the American Dream can mean that you have freedom to accomplish any task you would like to accomplish, as there are no laws that make a certain gender, race, or ethnic group feel more superior than others.
Quick write: Freedom+Conflict
11/14/2017

There are many benefits that can be identified in freedom, yet there are also some consequences to having freedom. Same goes for conflict as there are various consequences, but also a couple of benefits at the same time. For instance, with freedom, you can do, think, say whatever you desire to a certain extent. However, with too much freedom, things can get out of order and balance that causes disruption in society and the harming of other's rights and well being, which is a consequence of having freedom. Meanwhile, conflict is often seen as a negative thing, for society is torn apart as distress and fright spread across communities since nothing is in balance in conflict. But conflict can also be a positive aspect, because it leads to change in a person, situation, or community and lessons are learned from that experience in conflict. These ideas of freedom and conflict interrelate, because when used together, they create an equal balance that prevents absolute disorder. Thus creating a paradox, since these two ideas are complete opposites that seem very distinct, yet are similar in a way that they create a democracy in society.
"October Reflection"
11/6/2017
In terms of reaching my goals, I am beyond the half-way point of reaching both goals this year. I am doing very well on reading more books, and reading at least 40 minutes a day. Additionally, I am participating more often in class by trying to participate at least once a day and by asking more questions. Some strengths I see in myself in class is when I participate since I know the answer I will share with the class is mostly accurate. On the other hand, I have some weaknesses such as being afraid to have a wrong answer. And this is why I do not participate much. As a writer, I strongly feel I can accomplish writing anything whether it is a short paragraph or a five-paragraph essay, even if it must be rejected and improved various times. The most challenging thing for me is participating, for, as I mentioned, I am not confident enough because I am afraid to have the wrong answer to a question. However, one concept I do find easy for me to accomplish is writing short essays based on a novel we have read. This November, I would like to participate more often, for it will help me reach my goal to becoming less timid.
"The Crucible"- F.I.N.D. Reflection
F-Find I-Internal Connection N-New Idea D-Decision

I have learned many facts among the play, "The Crucible," by Arthur Miller, but I suppose one fact I consider very important is that the whole situation on the hangings occurred from hysteria that was caused by an absurd game of pretense in the woods by the young girls. As I was reading throughout the play, I felt pity for those who were innocent and had died (in character of course), since they were scapegoats of the witch trials and were blamed just so the accuser would be saved from further punishment. I also felt indignation since so many innocent people were convicted of a crime in the play and were punished while the actual wrongdoers, like Abigail, were freed without punishment and were rewarded for their accusations, which just made me furious on the situation. A new idea I learned from reading "The Crucible" is that hysteria and envy can really tear apart a community, ending with an unfavorable resolution. For instance, the envy that Abigail had for Elizabeth caused her to convict Elizabeth of being a witch, which led to a series of court cases and eventually, the misfortune of the death of John Proctor, Based on the reading and understanding of "The Crucible," a decision I will make is to never accuse others of a crime they did not commit just so I can save myself from being punished, because, as you can see from the play, worse things happen due to false confessions and accusations.
The Growth Mindset Project
GATE ICON AND IMPERATIVE PARAGRAPHS
Everyone has a mindset. And that mindset can be either a growth mindset, the idea that everyone can improve, or a fixed mindset, whereas its the idea that your abilities are given and static traits that cannot be improved. These concepts were introduced by the one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of motivation, Carol Dweck. Due to her research, we have found out that various important ethics are converged to form the mindsets. In other words, there are so many beliefs that define growth and fixed mindset. Carol Dweck once mentioned in a video interview on TED Talks an example of what makes up both the mindsets. “ This is an image of the brain of a fixed-mindset student. There's hardly any activity. They run from the error. They don't engage with it. But on the right, you have the students with the growth mindset, the idea that abilities can be developed and they engage deeply. They process the error. And they learn from it and correct it.” Moreover, she briefly explained some differences in these two mindsets and discussed some examples of what define each of them. We decided to use the gate icon, ethics, since the icons is used in times when there are beliefs about a topic that are good or bad. And we also decided to use the imperative, convergence, because the ethics or ideas all make up the growth mindset and the fixed mindset. With these two icons, we were also able to show some differences in the two mindsets. To summarize everything, the ethics converged to form a mindset are important, because they make up the differences between the two mindsets.
Our artifact consists of two drawings of the silhouettes of two men. The one that represents the fixed mindset is the one who is covered in bricks. The reasoning for this is because bricks stay together and don’t change. Just like a fixed mindset would. The guy with a city in him represents Growth Mindset because his mind keeps expanding and growing to improve his brain more. However, these both represent ethics and contribution. The reasoning for this is because in the fixed mindset, their belief is that they can’t change their mind to improve while the person with the growth mindset believes they can make their mindset better, as well as participating or in this case contributing to learning how they can expand their mindset. Our artifact would be considered important because it shows that if people want to be successful. They have to learn to take in negative feedback and turn it to something successful.

REFLECTION:
While completing this project, I learned various new things. One example can be that I have a fixed mindset. I realized this after researching various articles on the ideas that make up a growth and fixed mindset and found out that some facts applied to me. Not only that but I realized I usually like to be sure and confident of what I must be doing before I start when I think and I realized I often like to lead a task whenever I work with others. Lastly, I have found out I like to research more than what is expected just to be sure I am accurate whenever I think critically. If we would not have been assigned to do this project, I am positive I would not have realized any of this.
